Two Month Check-up!
The babies passed their two month check up with flying colors. Mitzi, the nurse practioner, was extremly impressed with their incredible weight gain and suggested that we may be feeding them too much formula. Certainly, if they follow the trajectory that they are on (2% to 88%), they'll end up too bonnie!! So..we will be having a few water bottles throughout the day to stretch out the times between formula bottles and limit our intake to 32 oz/day.
Libby has a flat spot developing on the back of her head. It seems to be from the place we have her in the crib -- she looks to the right and is creating a dent in her head. We've changed her position in the crib so that she looks to the left and we're making sure that anywhere she sits, she looks left until the spot is fixed. Evidently, 90% of twin cases of flat spots are with twin A. Mitzi commented on how alert and reactive Libby seems to be. That's our Mavis the Milk Monster!!
Henry doesn't have a flat spot (because he rarely sleeps in his crib, the blaggard!). We're going to watch him carefully, though. Mitzi commented on how "talkative" Henry is. Takes after his father.
Both babies took their four needles well. They screamed and mommy teared up, but bottles immediately after seemed to calm them. 24 hours later, they are running low-grade fevers that Tylenol seems to fix. More sleepy than usual, but what a treat for mom and dad!!Comments:Add a comment:

Henry's Kidney
We visited U of M today for an ultrasound on Henry's left kidney. It appears that the kidney is not improving and is actually more dilated with fluid. The radiologist has diagnosed a blockage of the UPJ, which is the junction of the ureter and the pelvis of the kidney. Our pediatric nephrologist, Dr. Smoyer, recommended a renal scan and a visit with a pediatric urologist. The renal scan will help quantify the function (or dysfunction) of the left kidney and will help the urologist determine what treatment to recommend. Dr. Smoyer prepared us for the possibility of surgery to remove the blockage.
Henry will have his renal scan on September 10th and a visit to the urologist on September 22nd.Comments:Add a comment:

Henry's got Colic
After several weeks of struggling to find out why Henry won't sleep and why he vomits, grunts and groans, and occassionally arches his back in pain, we've been told by the Pediatrician that he has colic.
The diagnosis doesn't help us much at all. We know that he has a bit of reflux that we're treating with Zantac and we've switched him to Similac Alimentum, a hypoallergenic formula that costs double the regular Similac formula. He's not vomiting much at all now, but he still grunts and has relux attacks. The only thing that seems to help him is wearing him in a baby sling and feeding him smaller amounts of food more often. Poor guy is so miserable. Despite his miserableness, he gives us big smiles all the time and lets us know that we aren't total screw ups as parents.
Mom and Dad are tired!! We hope Henry decides to sleep more at night soon.
Libby is doing wonderfully. She eats and sleeps and doesn't make a peep unless you're late with her food (then she screams the house down). She's a really happy baby...and very bonnie! We call her the milk monster because she's consuming as much as 6oz of milk at a feeding.
They're both smiling all the time now and are really alert and interested in people. They also love the Kick and Play bouncy seats -- which light up and make music when they kick their feet.
Stephen and I are so in love with them. We just sit and hold them and are so thankful that we've been blessed with two beautiful children.Comments:Add a comment:
