Update!
It's been a long time since we've updated the narrative on the website. The kids continue to grow up and do all sorts of new funny things.
We had a fun trip to Kansas over Thanksgiving. We visited the Hancocks and Uncle Ryan, Aunt Jess, and Aunt Mary. Lot of visitors made the trek to see the babies, including Grandma and Grandpa and Great-Grandma and Grandpa. Henry and Libby did really well on the plane. They had a harder time learning to sleep in pack-n-plays, but adjusted well. We enjoyed our little trip and it didn't scare us away from trying more in the future.
We got home from Thanksgiving and had our first trip to the Emergency Room with Henry. He was crying for hours once we got home and it appeared that he was in pain. of course, he had an ear infection that was quite bad. We felt horrible for having him on an airplane in that state, but he didn't complain until we got home. A week of anti-biotics and he was good as new. (Then he passed it onto his mom!)
Christmas was wonderful too. We spent Christmas Eve at Mom's boss's house with his family, who are all Kansas natives. Christmas Day the kids woke up at 9:00AM (hahah!) and we opened lots of wonderful presents. Libby got a new doll, a bracelet, a wagon, and lots of books. Henry got a car to push around, puzzles, a farm set, and lots of books. Mom and Dad got a waffle maker and wine! We had a nice breakfast together and spent the day playing with toys. Henry and Libby didn't seem to understand the ritual at all...but appreciated all the new toys. We even had trouble getting them to rip the paper -- a result of good parental training, we guess.
Lots of new words flying around. Henry is a big immitator and will repeat nearly anything you say, but doesn't understand what he's saying. He also likes to talk in long sentences of gibberish and he will read books to you in gibberish. There are some phrases (note...typically more than one word for our Henry) that he says like "is that?" or "what's that?" or "thank you". He repeats nearly any word. Today he said "orange bike" but we know he doesn't know what that means.
Henry is in the fit throwing stage. He throw massive fits due to frustration. We haven't really figured out what exactly he gets mad about. He is starting to learn about time-outs. He has quite a little temper.
Libby is still on one or two words (mom, dad, uh), but she is better at expressing herself. He points to things and makes noises to express what she wants. While Henry throws fits, Libby will simply walk to the refrigerator and point -- which usually means she would like milk. Libby is also a big helper and loves to put away clothes and help empty the dishwasher. She is always looking for a way to be helpful (and note...Henry is not!!).
Libby is also good at making animal sounds. She will immitate horse, dog, and cat sounds. And she remembers when and where to use them.
Favorite books: Go Dog, Go! (big, big favorite...we can't even say the name of the book in the house), Doggies, Baby Words and Things that Go.
And we found the ideal movie for Henry tonight: Air Bud -- a movie about a dog that plays basketball with a little boy. All three of Henry's favorites: boy, dog, ball. He sat on Stephen's lap and watched the whole thing...saying "ball" and "dog". What a sight!
Libby is a cuddler and loves to be cuddled and tossed around. She loves to play with her books and is just like her mommy in that she is a Linus --- carries around a stinky blanket everywhere. We're hoping that the new baby doll will surplant "chewey blankey", but we can't be sure.Comments:Add a comment:
