    Summer Get-away

We packed up the kids for a trip to Petoskey this past weekend. We stayed at the beautiful Perry Hotel, a historic inn. In mom's single days, this was the site of many fun vacations. However, traveling with two one year olds is certainly a different experience.

The kids were marvelous in the car. Really, really wonderful. No fussing whatsoever on the 5 hour drive. Sleeping in a hotel room is another story.

After 4 hours of putting the kids to sleep on Thursday night, mom and dad finally resorted to sleeping with the babies. We got no sleep as we were kicked and head butted and pushed to the edge of the bed by our darling babies. And the kids got up at 6:30 each morning -- which certainly didn't give us the sleep we needed. Friday was slightly better...just slightly! We decided to come back on Saturday instead of staying another night.

Restaurants were another "fun" experience. They did pretty well, but made gigantic messes. And on our last day in Petoskey, Henry vomited three sippy cups of milk all over his mother -- down her back, down her front, down her pants, and on the wall behind her. What fun that was!

We love our children and, as a result, will not be travelling with them much again and we will certainly not stay in hotel rooms with our darling babies. Relatives and those with spare bedrooms should be on alert. We will only be travelling to places with spacious houses, extra child care help, and places for mom and dad to escape to!

    We watched Sesame Street!

This morning, the twins had breakfast and then sat on the floor and watched about 15 minutes of Sesame Street! I know we probably shouldn't be celebrating the fact that our children watched TV, but it was a bit of a cognitive leap for them and they enjoyed it. Libby did the "Libby Dance" to the music and Henry talked back to Elmo.

We won't do Baby Einstein videos, but just having your kids sit still and concentrate for 15 minutes is a minor miracle.

In other news, Libby has now surpassed Henry in the tooth race. She has cut all her top incisors now and has started to cut a top molar. Henry is about 3 teeth behind now.

We also had our first really bad toddler night last night. They are slowly working themselves toward one nap a day, but aren't quite there yet. Yesterday, they took a nap from 10AM to 2:30PM and we went to Will Stuart's birthday party in the evening. They got very overtired and we had to leave early. It took us over 4 hours to get them to bed and get them asleep and both kids were screaming for most of the time. Yikes. We won't do that again!!

Henry is now running all over the house. Libby is still crawling and isn't very interest in walking. She's cruising and pushing things around the house.

Words: Henry says "tickum" and "Tee" -- we have no idea what they mean, but they must mean something given the conviction with which he says them. He babbles in long paragraphs. Libby says "Dah" and "mamamam" but not much else, although she has mastered the art of waving her head "no".

Libby is fascinated with the cat and likes to lay her head on the cat, pinning it down. Her favorite food is toast and anything else. She loves her pink blankie and sucks on it when in bed.

Henry loves buttons -- phone, TV remote, and computers. Henry's favorite food is milk and he doesn't seem to be that interested in any food other than bananas. He loves Stinky Bear and won't go to sleep without it. He has started to walk around the house carrying stinky bear and wanting to share it with us (no thanks! Pee-UUU)
